On December 11th our eighth school will be inaugurated and donated to the community of Pieve Torina (Macerata). It twill be a day full of activities and celebrations for a city where 90% of the buildings is still damaged and not accessible.
The earthquake in central Italy has destroyed schools, but not the imagination and optimism of children. Five of the best authors for children in the Italian scene offered a project of great civil commitment. AICRON is Norcia the other way round, a village rebuilt according to the desires, the imagination and the will to go ahead of its young inhabitants. The book is produced in collaboration with the Francesca Rava Foundation - N.P.H. Italia Onlus and was born from the materials of the laboratories held in the primary school of Norcia De Gasperi - Battaglia, a building rebuilt by the Foundation after the 2016 earthquake and delivered to the community less than a year after the first shocks. In some classes, just a few months after the earthquake, together with the well-known illustrator Giulia Orecchia, the workshop A Fantastic Country was launched, where the students recreated with imagination the places and buildings, the characteristic aspects and characters of a country, then realizing them with the collage technique. From these workshops a "fantastic reconstruction" of five new villagess was born,. Its images now brighten up the walls of the new school's classes. Five important Italian authors have reworked the ideas that emerged from the descriptions and drawings, giving life to fantastic stories that speak of hope, trust and the future. At the end of the book, there is also a diary of the actual reconstruction of schools in Central Italy, told in first person by the Foundation's team.
The Foundation work for Central Italy will not stop. A new project has already been approved.
Pieve Torina and its inhabitants badly need common infrastructures, such as sports facilities and a community center.
To start with, on November 28th, the Italian Navy organized an event to launch the fundraising for the construction of this sports center for school children and a meeting place for the whole community of Pieve Torina. For the same project the Navy will hold a concert in Senigallia on December 11th.
We have outlined budget and plan. Construction will start in January 2019. We need your support to reach our goal to complete the works and inaugurate it within October 2019.
