Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, Peace Winds has continued upgrading shelters for Syrian refugees living in camps in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. In this project year, which just ended, Peace Winds upgraded homes for 692 families in four camps. The households receive cash-for-work in exchange for their assistance building the homes.
While the project was temporarily slowed by COVID-19, Peace Winds provided materials and paid beneficiaries who made reusable masks for Peace Winds staff and the project beneficiaries.
Peace Winds has also been supporting the operation of tool service centers in the four camps, in partnership with the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), which provide beneficiaries with access to a variety of tools and equipment.
The project is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
