I wanted to update you on how your gift is helping families in Nepal rebuild their lives after the tragic earthquake. With your help, more communities have been reached with emergency supplies and vital shelter materials, just as the monsoon season begins. So far, we have supported distributions of food and shelter materials to more than 8,500 families across 5 districts.
Just last week, 121 families in the hard-hit Lalitpur region received corrugated galvanized iron sheeting to replace damaged roofing and provide protection from the rain. The homes in this area are mostly made of rocks, bricks, and mud, and they were heavily damaged in the quake. Having shelter materials provides vital protection for these devastated families. Thank you for helping make this possible!
Families in the Shrinathkot area received food and other critical supplies, which were given out by our Nepali partner ACN, with your support. These families also received shelter materials and medical care from volunteers in a temporary health camp.
A Nepali volunteer named Jyoti recounts her experience helping distribute emergency supplies:
“During the night time people all slept in the open maize fields and some did not even have mattresses to sleep on, just lying on the green grass field. Many small children had pneumonia due to sleeping outside, as nights were quite cold with some rain as well,” she said.
“In another village were most of the houses were destroyed I met a young woman who was wearing torn clothes that were her only clothes. The woman had two young children, a son of 7 years and a daughter of 4. I asked her about her husband and she told me he was not around. Her father-in-law was there and he said that the package of food we just had distributed was the first food they had received, as they did not have anything else to eat.”
You are making a huge impact in the lives of people who lost everything in this disaster. With your support, they are beginning the process of rebuilding their lives.
