Through its partnership with Eli Lilly, Project HOPE is working to establish Centers of Excellence in diabetes prevention, care and management in India. The initial goal is to train community health care workers on diabetes and its risks so they can then educate the public and promote screenings for diabetes and high blood pressure.
We are still in the initial phases of the project, but have recruited two Master Trainers in Sonipat and Visakhapatnam with expertise in chronic diseases – a diabetes educator and nurse specialist – who are now beginning to train additional health care workers and lead the community outreach component of the program.
Next steps include: finalizing the handbooks that will guide trainers during outreach and translating all of the training materials into local languages. We’re looking forward to beginning the next phase of the project with your generous support!
