Thank you for your support! We are happy to share an update that we recently received from a foster mother about a fun family celebration. Enjoy!
Every summer the kids eagerly look forward to the arrival of the Dragon Boat Festival!
On that traditional holiday, we always eat rice dumplings, fried sugar cake, and fried dish angle, and the children wear sachets and tie colored yarns because there is a legend that doing these things can avoid ghosts, and insure one’s health.
The most important thing in our family is eating fried sugar cake and fried dish angle, due to the fact that they are the children’s favorite food! This year, while cooking these special treats, we shared interesting stories about what happened in school.
While making the sugar cake, Shuaicai was curious about the reason why it is in the shape of a triangle. Father explained the answer to him in detail, about how the shape holds sugar in place during the frying process. Hearing what his father said, Shuaicai seemed to understand that and learned to make the sugar cake like his father.
At first, the children made the cakes in all different shapes and sizes. But after a while they got the hang of making them correctly. The whole process took a long time—the children couldn’t wait to eat them!
When the food was finally ready, all the children came to eat together. The dragon boat festival went by filled with happiness.
