By Louis Luo | Communications Manager, China
Only a year ago, Yang and her husband became foster parents through the OneSky Family Village program and welcomed three boys and one little girl into their home. As foster mother, Yang, stepped into this new role, she made a promise to herself to do everything in her power to bring warmth and joy into these children’s lives.
Each morning, Yang’s home follows a calm, familiar rhythm. While the boys get ready for school, she prepares breakfast with her little girl, Xiangxiang, by her side. These simple routines give the children a sense of stability and security. Yang and her husband’s open communication helps them stay aligned on what matters most: listening to their children, fostering independence, and ensuring the children feel supported and happy.
Like any family, they face everyday challenges — whether it’s helping the boys with homework, comforting little Xianxiang after a bad dream or getting everyone quiet for bedtime. Sometimes little Xiangxiang was frightened at bedtime and wouldn’t sleep. Yang gave her a soft doll to cuddle, which helped her fall asleep peacefully. Soon, bedtime became a fun competition, and within a week, Xiangxiang slept well, even mimicking Yang by telling her brothers that "early sleep and early rise are good for your health!"
With guidance and support from OneSky’s trainers, Yang and her husband have come to understand the true value of responsive, nurturing care. Looking back, Yang admits, “I have grown alongside Xiangxiang and the boys. They taught me that love is not just about giving—it’s also about patience and understanding.”
Reflecting on their journey so far, Yang happily shares, “Just like any other children in the world, they long for love. Even though we are not their biological parents, I’m lucky to be here for them during this important time. Every day with them fills me with hope, and being their mother has shown me how many different forms love can take.”
