The Governor of Oregon has proposed a new budget. The proposal includes closing all Alternative to Work programs in Oregon. Tulatin Valley Worshop (TVW) has two of these sites, with approximately 60 people with disabilities attending that will be affected. Also in the budget proposal is a 4 % cut for services for people with disabilities who attend sheltered workshops. At TVW this affects about 100 additional attendees.
Oregon Rehabilitation Association has been writing letters and encouraging the public, people employed in Human Services, and families of people with disabilities to do the same.
The result is the Legislature is revisiting the budget cuts and the outcome may be a better than originally forecast.
New participants in the programs may be facing more difficulties in obtaining funding for services. The need for funding for scholarships to TVW’s programs is ongoing.
