Dear Supporters,
As our ‘Help someone rebuild their world after disaster’ project on GlobalGiving comes to a close with the new financial year, we are writing to express our heartfelt thanks for your ongoing generosity.
Last summer (2026) Australia has experienced more disasters than the same period last year and our teams have spent five times as many hours on the ground supporting communities.
Your donations have helped support people like Vicki.
In 2022 during the devastating floods, Vicki needed to be rescued from her veranda after the flood waters reached previously unseen levels. With support from Australian Red Cross, she was able to recover and better prepare for future emergencies.
When Cyclone Alfred hit in 2025, Vicki was prepared in advance and decided to take action before the Richmond River began seriously flooding. She knew how to keep herself and her neighbours safe, helping to reduce the impact on her community.
In March 2025, Cyclone Alfred caused significant damage to Southeast Queensland and Northern NSW with strong winds, severe coastal erosion and significant flooding. Australian Red Cross provided psychological first aid and support to more than 15,000 impacted community members across 45 evacuation centres and 70 recovery hubs.
You can help locals like Vicki in Northern Rivers NSW to be better prepared for future disasters.
Together we can be there for people before, during and after emergencies across Australia.
If you’d like to continue to connect with us, you can visit our always on page ‘Australian Emergency Fund’ on GlobalGiving.
With gratitude,
Kath
