Great news! Selam and Mihret are just finishing up their second year at the Hamlin College of Midwives and continue to thrive. Both have been studying the care of children and newborns.
From our WEEMA Ethiopian Country Director:
"Mihret and Selam spent the last four weeks in Zewuditu Hospital in the Pediatrics and Neonatal wards. The main duty assigned to them was basic nursing care for neonates, infants and children admitted to the ward.
Selam assisted the management of premature baby born at 27th weeks. She has been monitoring her vital signs, measuring head circumference and managing the nasogastric tube feeding. Selam also assisted in the management of an infant with spina bifida and has been giving wound care as well as other nursing care to him. Mihret was involved in all of the above nursing duties. In addition, she assisted in the management of hydrocephalic patient.
Selam and Mihret now moved to a health center to improve their exposure to preventive services. At the health center, they are administering all types of vaccines, taking patient histories, following proper administration of antibiotics and monitoring vital signs."
Mirhet and Selam will take a short summer break and will be ethusiastically ready to start their third year this fall.
