Happy Spring!
We wanted to provide you with an update of this project. We continue to fundraise in hopes of helping these deserving families obtain the service dogs they deserve. There are about 10 families who paid significant money to a trainer who closed shop and declared bankruptcy, leaving these family with no service dog, or what they claim to be, poorly trained service dogs.
We have found a solution for two families and are working with a third to find a good outcome for them. For one family, we found a trainer who would work with us on their fees and we've been able to fully-fund a service dog for her. Another family received a service dog, but were not comfortable taking the dog into public as the dog would pull his handler hard, putting her in dangerous situations. We have hired a trainer in her area to work with her and her service dog and reports are that things have improved significantly.
Here is a link to one of the stories told by NBC and another link about The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation stepping forward and trying to help this situation.
Thank you to those who have donated, although we have a VERY long way to go. Please help us spread the word so that we can help these families. They have already raised significant funds in their own communities with little or nothing to show, which makes it difficult for them to raise funds once again.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
If you donate to this project or have donated to this project, you can receive an email when this project posts a report. You can also subscribe for reports without donating.
