Progress Report on “Help our Disadvantaged Youths Project”
of the Cambodian Children’s House of Peace
June – August 2014
From a Trainee to a Paid Trainer
The Cambodian Children’s House of Peace – CCHP keeps meeting the needs of the disadvantaged youths; and reaching their objectives. Since the start of the project, CCHP keeps providing educational and vocational training supports to the children and youths who are under our care.
We currently have 10 youths including 5 females. One of our youths, Bon, has now become a paid trainer in motor mechanics. He works for a local NGO where he was trained in motor mechanics before. When he first started a new job there he was watched and tested to see if he is suitable for the job. Then after a 3-month probationary period he was promoted to a full capacity trainer. He now earns 50 US Dollars a month with room and board. His future plan is to start up his own business after gaining enough practical experience from this NGO – CCHP will help facilitate to make sure that his dream is realized.
From Trainees to Full-Time Staff
Three of our female youths, Lina, Vanna, and Sokheng, now have become staff members of local enterprises – hotels and restaurant after their completion of vocational training in hospitality, pastry and bakeries. They earn around 100 US Dollars per month which is enough for them to make a living. They now have decided to live on their own in a group house. They are very happy with their current job. Their future dream is to become a senior staff member in the next few years.
From a Student of English to a Teacher of English
Among the 10 youths, one of them, Sreyroth, has now become a part-time teacher of English at a private school in the provincial town. She works very hard at the Home to make sure that her dream is realized. She has now become a teacher of English. She majored in English in university. Her friends always admire her for her determination. She is very proud of her hard work in the past. She lives in a group house with other friends. Her goal is to become a professional teacher of English after graduation.
The rest of the youths are still in high school – most of them are in the last grade. They all have set their goals for their future. They study hard every day to make sure that goals are achievable. One of them wants to become a medical doctor and others want to be IT specialists.
On behalf of the youths, once again, we would like to thank you very much for your contribution and commitment to support our project – Friends like you make our project possible.
