Challenge

On March 28, 2025, a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, leaving a trail of destruction and suffering in its wake. Thousands of lives have been lost, countless homes reduced to rubble, and entire communities-already strained by years of civil war-now face an unimaginable crisis. In Mandalay, Sagaing, and beyond, families are sleeping on the streets, hospitals are overwhelmed, and access to basic needs like food, water, and shelter hangs by a thread.

Solution

Our goal is to raise funds to help our partner villages rebuild in order to continue their work with Shanta Foundation that is changing lives- offering a path out of extreme poverty. Staff on the ground will allocate funds to projects rebuilding homes and community structures, then support rebuilding in the Inle Lake region where 80% of the homes were leveled. This is emergency relief and ongoing support for our programming to continue in villages on their community development path.

Long-Term Impact

Initial funding will support relief with emergency resources like clean water, food, medical attention, then rebuilding communities where the impact of the March earthquake leveled homes. Longer term, our provenly effective model of community-led development offers villages a path out of extreme poverty forever. See our website for detailed program descriptions.
