MMU helps limit spread of COVID 19

By Rebecca Dias | Project Leader

As the country gradually began opening after the lockdown, the COVID 19 pandemic exacerbated its limitations, leading to the surge in coronavirus cases. PRIDE India’s defensive strategy through the Mobile Medical Units continued to play a vital role in providing quality health care service to the doorstep of the vulnerable people living in remote rural, under-served, unreached areas.

The key strategy of these Mobile Medical Units during these crucial times not only provided doorstep quality treatment in the remote villages but was also helpful in controlling the corona infection.

Widening its impact and proving as effective as possible, our Mobile Medical Units have provided COVID 19 sensitization to 126 remote villages covering 2.54 lakh population. The awareness sensitization programmes included topics like the importance of seeking timely healthcare, details and importance of the COVID 19 vaccination and the need for proper COVID 19 safety measures and good hygiene practices. The sensitization programmes were conducted through banners, loudspeakers, small group discussions and through individual health counseling.

The Mobile Medical Units also identified and provided COVID 19 testing for the potential cases. 3621 potential cases were identified and tested. This had helped in isolating them early and therefore limiting the contagion.

All the villagers especially the village heads, were very grateful to PRIDE India’s SPARSH Mobile Medical Unit as it provided them with timely medical services at their doorstep thus helping them stay indoors and controlling and preventing the increase of the infection.
