"I became more self-confident, my shyness decreased. Now, I would do anything without feeling shy; standing on the stage, dancing. After the program, I felt mentally relieved. " - Reema
When the strict lockdown was finally lifted in Lebanon, Intisar Foundation spared no effort in returning to its field activities but with a strong emphasis on safety measures. Our Drama Therapy programs changed in many areas while maintaining the core values of healing and self-empowerment. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to reach 22 women through a 12-week Drama Therapy program in Shatila camp in Beirut, Lebanon. And thereby reaching 132 indirect beneficiaries.
Before going back to the field, we had to make several changes to our programs to accommodate the new reality of COVID-19. Our sessions which were previously based around large groups of up to 18 women and lasting approximately 3 hours each were divided into shorter sessions with smaller groups. Each session now lasts 45 to 60 minutes, with only 5 to 7 participants in the groups, allowing us to observe social distancing rules. Furthermore, activities were adjusted to be completely contact-free.
Now, more than ever, mental health support for women is a priority. With secondary problems to the COVID-19 pandemic like increased rates of domestic violence, increased financial insecurity, stress, and anxiety related to possible health issues arising in the past 12 months. Women were among the biggest victims of these secondary problems. Hence, psychological support is a much-needed intervention for the most marginalized women, those already affected by war, violence, and inequality.
Our generous donors make our programs possible, we plant hope and resilience in the face of uncertainty and adversity.
