Child Rights and particularly the role of youth in understanding the situation of children and protection measures.
Child Rights Trust reached 83 members, largely youths in two workshops conducted in Bengaluru Rural and Tumkuru Districts, Karnataka in this quarter. These programmes were conducted in the month of December 2019 and January 2020(16th&17th Dec and 4th&5th Jan). In these joint programmes a greater number of women took part.
The programmes concentrated on providing tips for the participants to understand the actual situation in which the children are in. The issues discussed were on health, education and protection with secondary and primary data. These later discussed from child rights perspective while introducing child rights. Existing legislations, programmes for the benefit of children were also introduced with examples.
Participants were challenged to narrate their observations, experiences and were motivated to come out with local solutions to the problems. As most participants were from rural areas, largely village and grama panchayat level issues were taken for discussion.
Issues pertaining to death of children, non-school going and child labour, child marriage, sexual abuse in families and outside and children in need of care and protection issues were taken up for larger understanding. Among the trainees there were a few post graduate and graduation students who hae shown interest in taking up profession with child rights perspective.
All these trainings were organized in collaboration with local NGOs and got the support from government departments by being part of the inauguration and valedictory. There is a continued need to train and orient a large number of youths on child rights to reach the goal of ‘every right for every child’.
We once again thank you individually and GlobalGiving collectively for the support. As the requirement of reaching out to the masses on changing the mind set towards children and bring in behavioural change, we once again request you to kindly extend your support CRT.
