The fourth quarter of the financial year 2020 - 2021 was filled with uncertainties, yet our determination and persistence has led us to accomplish unprecedented outcomes. This quarter, we were able to touch the lives of 15,249 children and adults through our 3 programmes namely, Personal Safety Education, Child Sexual Abuse Education and Training and Digital Learning.
Personal Safety Education
Personal Safety Education Programme (PSE) is a life skill-based module with the objective to empower children with Personal Safety messages so that they can participate in their own safety. It equips children with the skills to identify safe and unsafe situations, Say No and Get Away from unsafe situations, and seek help. The programme also works with key adult stakeholders in the child’s life, like parents, caregivers and teachers, so that they can create a safe environment for children to thrive in. In the fourth quarter, through our Personal Safety Education Programme, we have reached out to 4,513 children and 1,817 adults. We handled a total of 582 disclosures through 490 sessions with children and adults and we were able to bring closure to 261 cases.
Training and Advocacy
Arpan has always focussed on capacity building for child protection. This is done through conducting training and capacity building initiatives with various stakeholders like Teachers, Institutional Staff, NGO professionals, Social Workers, Health Workers, Mental Health professionals, Government duty bearers as well as Corporates. In this quarter, we have reached over 1,348 individuals through Training, Awareness and Handholding sessions. We also conducted Personal Safety Education Training of Trainers in a mixed group having representatives from different organization and institutions, trained the Kaivalya Education Foundation fellows, conducted awareness sessions with Ministry of Women and Child Development and Police Officials from Hoshiarpur District, Punjab and conducted in-person hand holding with Navjeevan Ragpickers Project.
We are excited to share that, in this quarter, Arpan has been invited by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) to review its content for training on Gender Based Violence. It is our pride to have Juanita Kakoty, Senior Manager - Public Advocacy, on NCERT’s Advisory board for the Department of Gender Studies for 3 years.
Digital Learning
Our Digital Learning programme aims to empower children with the knowledge and skills to keep themselves safe in unsafe situations and seek help. It also educates the various stakeholders in a child’s life about Personal Safety and creates awareness about Child Sexual Abuse prevention and intervention. In this quarter, with our Digital Learning programmes, we have been able to reach out to over 8,450 individuals with our digital resources, either self-availed on Arpan’s E-learn platform or through partner platforms like Diksha and Inner Wheel.
Mental Health Services
Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, we also continued to offer Mental Health counselling and therapeutic services to anyone facing anxiety, stress, apart from providing counselling support to individuals who have experienced sexual abuse. Through our COVID specific Helpline and Portals we handled a total of 16 cases and were able to reach out to 43 individuals through our email-based programme. We handled a total of 145 cases of CSA through 308 sessions with child clients, their trusted adults, and adult clients. We also worked with 21 children from Prayas who demonstrated sexual misbehaviour. Prayas works with Children in Conflict with Law (CCL) since 2009, with the objective of facilitating access to the provisions under The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, while ensuring sustained rehabilitation.
Public Awareness
With Public Awareness activities, Arpan aims to create awareness and sensitise people on the issue of Child Sexual Abuse. In this quarter, we created engagement on our social media handles with interesting and engaging posts. Through this, we have been able to garner a reach of over 10, 29,000. We also continued our promotions for The Child Safety Week (CSW) campaign which took place in the last quarter. We released our Movement Builders Podcast produced during CSW, which was a 7 episode audio podcast series highlighting the journey of various organisations and individuals addressing the issue of Child Sexual Abuse. Through the CSW promotions, we garnered a reach of over 383, 000. We also saw 35,000 unique visitors on our websites including Arpan Website and Arpan Elearn Website. Through Print Media, Arpan gained a readership of over 193,400 and for webinars we received over 10,317 views. This quarter, through our Public Engagement activities, we achieved a total reach of 1.24 million.
Your belief and unending support in our endeavours encourages us to continue working harder towards creating a world free from Child Sexual Abuse.
