SO Grateful!

By Violet | Resident

Violet is a 57-year-old single mother of four boys, the youngest two live with her.  They moved to Las Vegas from Oklahoma in March of 2021 to be closer to her mother in California.  It was as far west as she could afford.  She immediately got a job as a mental health therapist.  She purchased a car in July to replace her broken-down truck and things were fine, she thought.  Her employer closed for the Christmas holidays, and she was due to return on January 5th.  That never happened and the facility shut down permanently.

Eviction had been filed and they were awaiting a court date.  She was 2 months behind. She just started a new job as a Mental Health Counselor and is desperate to save her apartment and avoid eviction.  We were able to provide this family with rental assistance to keep them in their apartment.  Here's what she sent to us:

Dear Resident Relief:

I wanted to write you a letter showing my appreciation of your services. My family and I are very appreciative of your help at such a trying time. Me and my kids had just moved to Las Vegas in April of 2021, and at the time I was working as a therapist for an agency that provides mental health services for the homeless and substance abuse clients. The agency closed for the Christmas break and was supposed to reopen after the new year, when we all were told “the agency will open in another week”, and it went on until the end of January when we were told that it was closed for good.

At that time I had to use what was in my savings, as I began looking for another job. I had to notify my landlord that I would be late on my rent and explained the reason behind it. At the same time, I got a letter stating that I had a 7-day pay or quit. By this time I was stressed out and afraid that me and my kids would be homeless. My landlord sent me some information about rental assistance. I didn’t even know such help existed. I had been a homeowner all these years.

I decided to reach out to your company, to get the information needed to start the process. Although I knew it would take some time, I felt I had more to lose if I didn’t take the time to complete it.  I am so grateful that I did. You have really changed our lives, and I can’t imagine where my family would be without this help.

I can’t express to you enough how grateful I am for your foundation and your assistance. Through this process, I have learned to look at my finances and make different choices and decisions about how I spend my money, and how to take care of my credit. Your educational information about finance, credit, loans, etc. is a very important tool that everyone should have. I want to say Thank You so much for your help!
