The combination of Covid restrictions and ongoing turmoil and unrest in Haiti has taken its toll on medical availability in Haiti. Medical access, already strained, declined recently as facilities shutter; unable to obtain medicines, equipment, and security problems. Leadership and our Board of Directors discussed a significant step forward in our plans. We've chosen to bypass our intermediate expansion and move to renovate and remodel a larger facility space for expanded medical availability. This initiative, while more expensive, places GLA in a place to offer greater NICU access and step-down facilities. We are obtaining bids for remodeling work, sustainable power install options, and design assistance. The leadership team feels passionate about positioning this part of our facility as the lynchpin of our further expansion into medical services in the coming years. Facility remodel is not the only step implemented; we've engaged certified training for our existing nursing staff while seeking additional skilled medical professionals to offer more care and a higher level.
