It's no secret that running a NICU means keep up with an ever changing environment. Each child has a specific care regimen and when their symptoms change, we change our care plan. Sometimes we're able to see those changes happening slowly over time and other times, there are unforeseen emergencies that require quick thinking and calm nerves. We're so thankful for a wonderful Haitian nursing staff and our own GLA Director and long-time Registered Nurse, Dixie Bickel for the long hours that they put into ensuring that each child gets the personalized care that they need day by day.
That said, we also realize the amount of work and daily duties incurred by Dixie, in her her position of Director. It's extremely difficult on her to fulfill those requirements of leading and steering the organization while many times, having to coordinate or administer "around the clock" care for some of our children who are in more critical condition. So, we've been praying and actively searching for a full-time nurse to come and join our staff here in Haiti. We are looking for a nurse with one to two years experience, although specific pediatric experience is not necessary. We can teach you what you need to know to work in our children's home.
You will be responsible for vaccinations, daily checking of the children's medical needs, and working closely with our Pediatrician and Haitian staff. This position has a small stipend to help you live in Haiti but you will need to raise your own support for airfare, language lessons, Haitian resident visa, and all incidentals. Room and kitchen provided. You are responsible for some of your own meals. For more information please contact our US office gla-usa@glahaiti.org. You can also call and speak to Mrs. Jean Bell in our offices, at 719-638-4348.
If you don't feel like transitioning to Haiti is the right move for you, would you please consider giving financially to help cover the cost of the stipend for this nursing position. Having a full-time nurse on sight would greatly increase our ability to accept more children in need of life-saving care and it would also ensure that we continue to educate and train our Haitian nursing staff regularly. We know that God has just the right person picked out to come and join our team and we can't wait to meet them! With your help, that need will be fulfilled quickly! Thank you!
