Dear Supporters,
One of the greatest challenges facing poor children with cancer in Nigeria is distance from specialized hospitals. Many children live in rural areas where pediatric oncology services are unavailable. Families must travel to cities to access treatment, but once there, they face another crisis: where to stay. Without safe accommodation, some families sleep in unsafe places, overcrowded rooms, or hospital corridors or return home before treatment is completed.
Empower Future Initiative’s project is designed to keep children and caregivers close to hospitals throughout treatment. Accommodation support helps families remain near pediatric oncology services, reducing missed appointments and improving the chances that children complete their treatment plans. A safe place to stay also protects children from unnecessary exposure, stress, and instability during a time when they need comfort and careful attention.
Cancer treatment can take weeks or months, depending on the diagnosis and care plan. No child should have to stop treatment because their family cannot afford shelter. By supporting accommodation, this project creates a bridge between rural poverty and hospital-based care.
Keeping families close to hospitals means keeping children close to lifesaving treatment. It means fewer delays, fewer missed sessions, and more hope for recovery. This is why accommodation is not an extra service; it is a critical part of child cancer care.
Best wishes,
Empower Future Initiative Team
