Thank you so much for supporting Partners In Health / Zanmi Lasante and our work to fight cholera in Haiti.
According to a recent Foreign Policy report, the U.S. will "rebuff a recent U.N. appeal to contribute millions of dollars to a cash-short trust fund established last year to provide relief to victims of a cholera epidemic that has killed more than 9,000 Haitians and sickened more than 800,000 more, according to U.S. and U.N. officials."
The fund aims to raise $400 million, but has only received $2.7 million thus far.
A continued lack of funding for cholera treatment and prevention efforts increases the disease's prevalence and deadliness -- making PIH's own efforts all the more urgent.
PIH remains as committed as ever to investing in cholera treatment units, sanitation projects and community health worker-led education programs that teach communities about how to recognize the signs of, as well as prevent, cholera. We also recently supported the Haitian government's cholera vaccination program, which reached nearly 800,000 people.
In the face of inaction from much of the world, PIH stays the course to eliminate the spread of cholera in Haiti. It's all possible with your support -- thank you for your dedication and generosity.
