Summary

Northern Nigeria is facing one of its worst humanitarian crises in years. Conflict, armed attacks, displacement, hunger, disease outbreaks, and shrinking international aid have left millions struggling to survive. Nearly 35 million people across Nigeria are expected to face acute food insecurity in 2026, while more than 17 million people in conflict-affected northern states are already experiencing severe hunger. Thousands of civilians have also lost their lives due to violence.

Challenge

Nigeria is facing a severe humanitarian crisis driven by conflict, armed attacks, displacement, floods, disease outbreaks, and rising food prices. Cuts in international humanitarian aid have reduced access to food, healthcare, clean water, and other life-saving services. Millions of people, including children, pregnant women, older persons, and people with disabilities, are struggling to survive, while many families have lost their homes, livelihoods, and hope for the future.

Solution

This project will provide emergency food, clean drinking water, healthcare, medicines, hygiene supplies, and protection services to families affected by conflict, displacement, hunger, and aid cuts in Northern Nigeria. Mobile healthcare teams will reach hard-to-access communities, as well as displacement and refugee camps, to provide life-saving treatment, essential medicines, and nutrition support for children, pregnant women, older persons, and people with disabilities and special needs.

Long-Term Impact

The project will reduce hunger, improve nutrition, and increase access to healthcare and clean water for families affected by conflict and displacement. Better health and nutrition will lower the risk of disease and preventable deaths, most especially among children, pregnant women, older persons, and people living with disabilities. As families recover, they will be better able to rebuild their lives, restore their livelihoods, and become more self-reliant.
