During this quarter, Take Heart Association Project (THAP) reached an important milestone by exceeding the projected 7 surgeries targeted for 2016. In the month of October THAP executed its 8th successful corrective heart surgery when Little Jolie was operated on at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet Kenya. Comforted in the arms of both mom and dad, Little Jolie was taken home safely and is making a remarkable recovery. Her mom wrote:

“Take Heart is the best.  Mr. Kamau goes beyond the call of duty to help our children. May God bless him and his Staff.”

Over the past three months, 11patients 5-18 years old, with various stages of congenital heart diseases, underwent evaluation, and cardiac reviews. Dr. Allison a pediatric cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, and Dr. Simon of New Hope Hospital screened the patients in September in preparation for surgery in January 2017. Thirty-two (32) other children and families received support services, home visits, and educational literature to improve health and diet that included: Medicine 16; and Accommodation at THAP Family Support Center 16.

THAP continues collaboration with Chain of Hope to provide accommodation for in-transit patients at the Family Center. Gift of Life International (GOLI) and THAP is currently discussing and evaluating the need to build a dedicated cardiac unit at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet Kenya that would benefit THAP patients and other community residents.

Our sincere thanks to donors, partners, and supporters, of THAP and CAC that make it possible for us to care for children that desperately need intervention and corrective heart surgeries. Your continued support make our efforts worthwhile.
