With your generous support, ACDI/VOCA plans to train 50 young Liberian farmers, both men and women, aged 16 to 35. These farmers will learn new techniques to protect rainforests in Liberia, home to the last large block of tropical rainforest remaining in West Africa. As the nation continues to recover from recent crises, like Ebola, many rural communities are still struggling to produce enough crops without depleting their natural resources.
The funds raised by this project will be used to train young farmers in methods for producing cocoa and oil palm sustainably. They will gain the skills they need to produce more and earn more for their families, while also avoiding damaging farming practices and protecting precious rainforest lands.
As we approach our fundraising goal, ACDI/VOCA is prepared to help farmers learn how to join cooperatives, build nurseries, plant and harvest tress, and practice responsible forest management and land use. We hope to begin these activities in the near future.
