Idha fled India back to the USA with her son Ethan this past summer. Her husband has become so violent they feared for their lives. She was afraid he would come after her and Ethan in the USA.
Idha called us so we could help guide her on the next steps she needed to take to be able to keep her son in the USA. She and Ethan were American citizens, as was her husband, but she feared he would try to force her to take Ethan back to India.
We secured an attorney for Idha who had documented the abuse well. Without her husband's knowledge, she taped him while he went into rages on her phone. Her husband's attorney recommended he not fight Idha for custody, but just try to get visitation with Ethan in the USA.
Ethan began school in September and is doing really well. Idha is so happy to be back home with her family!
Because of donations like yours, battered mothers and their children can sleep in safe homes, far from violence.
We would also like you to know that we are changing our name from the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center to Pathways to Safety International, with the tag line: Empowering victims of interpersonal & gender based violence abroad.
This name better reflects the scope of work we do to help Americans experiencing violence abroad.
Thank you so much for your support! Paula Lucas, Founder & Executive Director
