A Warm Welcome: GlobalGiving Visits CHEDRA!

By Katherine Sammons | GlobalGiving Program Asssoicate

Hugs for everyone!  When Britt Lake GlobalGiving's Director of Programs, and I visited CHEDRA's office in Masaka we received the best welcome, hugs all around.

Britt and I first spoke with staff members before visiting the school. The staff is such an inspiration! We learned more about issues facing the community where CHEDRA works, a section of Masaka which faces high levels of poverty. CHEDRA is a community-based organization working to recognize problems faced by persons in the community and then seeks solutions to eradicate them.

CHEDRA's programs are well-rounded. The staff facilitates community-based education programs focusing on HIV/AIDS prevention, maternity health, all the way to literacy training. CHEDRA’s counselors work within the schools to support children in need of a listening ear. Tom, one of CHEDRA’s staff members sums up their work in a nutshell, CHEDRA works to, “restore hope.”

After our meeting in the office we went to visit Bugabira Community Primary School. What a second welcome! The school's choir welcomed us through song and dance, such talent!

It was the beginning of a new term for the students and you could feel the excitement in the air. It was clear that the teachers engage the students through active conversation.

After meeting staff members and students it was difficult leaving the school. Thank you for supporting education in Uganda!
