Thanks for a great 12 months

It’s been just over 12 months since we launched our op-shop enterprise, and were absolutely overwhelmed by the generous support of Australians far and wide. With your support, we’ve managed to:

  • Purchase sewing machines and overlockers to support a thriving sewing business
  • Tour our op-shop and art stall to markets in Barunga, Katherine and Darwin
  • Establish a permanent storage facility for our clothes here, in Jilkminggan
  • Develop a range of Bringgan Art Centre gift cards by local artist, Wendy
  • Teach locals about running a small business, how to take sales and managing finances
  • Facilitate a range of art- and enterprise-focused workshops to develop skills and knowledge
  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive space where Jilkminggan community members (and all our visiting family-mob!) can explore their creativity and learn about enterprise

But we’re not shutting our doors. Far from it! Please feel free to drop in and say hello: we are one of the first buildings on the left when you drive into Jilkminggan. Along with our opshop, you’ll find us sewing, painting, cooking johnnycakes and experimenting with new techniques.

Not in the neighbourhood? Then please follow us on Facebook, where we regularly post updates on our progress. We sometimes post artworks for sale, too!

Are you interested in donating clothes? We’d still love to receive them! These are turned into valuable revenue for our Art Centre, and enable community members to learn about retail and business along the way. There are specific items that are really suitable for our climate and culture, so please drop us a line at: jilkcommunityaboriginalcorp@gmail.com to find out what’s good to send, and how to deliver.

Thank you for all of your wonderful support. Be sure to check out Enterprise Learning Project’s Global Giving page to find out about other budding enterprises.
