The time has come to relocate our last shipping container of clothing donations to Jilkminggan. We need to raise $4680 to purchase the container and relocate it from a temporary storage facility in Katherine.
This is great news! It means that we will permanently have a home for all our donations, on-site, easy for our ladies to walk to, and will make rotation of stock and seasonal clothes much easier. It will also allow the op-shop to sustain itself for years to come, allowing the op shop to grow and develop.
And grow we know it will: lately we’ve had plenty of young ones join our op-shop and art centre team to learn retail skills and develop their art practice. One of these bright sparks is Tianna Farrar, who has now left our Jilkminggan School and is making some bright additions to our range of bags and canvases. She’s very skilled at painting flowers!
Tianna joined the rest of our mob at the International Womens Day market in Katherine, where we set up our op-shop stall and sold some of the fabulous paintings, bags, and painted turtle shells our artists have been busily creating. We’re so proud of the new artworks, skills and opportunities our op-shop venture has enabled. Perhaps in time we will expand to new retail outlets...and even online!
Meanwhile, individual clothing donations continue to arrive, which help to seed our activities. If you’re interested in sending donations and would like to know what sort of items are appropriate, or we are in need of, please get in touch via our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/jilkmingganopshop/?ref=br_rs
