Launch of our Human Rights Violations Report 2024
Launch of our Human Rights Violations Report 2024

Introduction

Over the past three months, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to advancing the objectives outlined in our GlobalGiving project. While we have not yet received funds through the GlobalGiving platform during this time, we have continued to implement impactful activities using resources from other donors and partners who share our vision.

Initiatives Implemented during this period

Despite limited funding from this platform, we have successfully carried out the following activities:

  1. Provision of free sexual and reproductive health services for over 200 people at our HEFAMAA-certified Clinic.
  2. Provision of free physical and mental health using gender-affirming practices
  3. Community engagement and training of peers in sexual and reproductive health issues
  4. Providing a safe place for marginalized communities to meet, socialize and discuss important issues happening within their communities. These events happened monthly with feeding provided to all attendee
  5. Collated reports of human rights violations against people perceived to be SOGIESC or part of sexual minority groups in NIgeria. This report was launched in December 2024 to commemorate Human Rights Day.
  6. 100 reports were printed and distributed nationwide to civil society organizations, embassies, policymakers and government agencies.
  7. Launched several social media campaigns that called for the need for equality and human rights for all.
  8. Launched campaigns about sexual and reproductive health practices and promoted these ads on social media for a larger reach.
  9. A Symposium was held in December 2024 that hosted civil society organizations, embassies, policymakers and government agencies. In collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission, we hosted over 100 attendees and discussed the need for private and government institutions to join the fight for human rights and equality for marginalized communities in Nigeria.

These accomplishments reflect our capacity to deliver impactful outcomes and ensure that the communities we serve continue to benefit from our work.

Challenges

While we have made progress, additional funding from donors on platforms like GlobalGiving will improve the reach and effectiveness of some of our planned activities. Expanding our donor base on this platform is part of our focus for the next 3 months.
