Laxmi, who hails from the state of Uttar Pradesh in India, has been staying with her family near Turbhe, Mumbai. She is a very bubbly and extroverted girl. However, her aspirations were constrained by her family, who allowed her to continue school and Jr. College, but did not permit her to work. Her father is the sole earner in the family and he firmly believed that there was no need for her to work, stating always that he could provide her with the basic necessities. However, when the Covid-pandemic induced lockdown was in place, her father’s work started becoming irregular, thus affecting the family’s income. When Laxmi heard about the courses offered by STCI, she immediately enrolled for the same, and completed the BPO training course through a virtual platform, without letting her family know about it. She revealed the same to her family when she received a job offer, with a starting salary of Rs. 13,000/- per month. This was the first time her father recognized her aspiration to be economically independent and supported her whole-heartedly. Laxmi states happily that she feels like a free bird now and is better prepared for the uncertainties of life.
STCI, through our myriad skills training interventions, have reached out to and trained over 500 young women in Maharashtra during the lockdown, through virtual training in the trades of E-Retail, BPO and Para Nursing. We have placed candidates in esteemed companies like Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors and so on.
