Huru International visits schools and local communities in Kenya to provide girls with Huru Kits and menstrual health education. Each distribution provides girls with reusable sanitary pads, underwear, soap, and clear guidance, helping them manage their periods safely and stay in school with confidence.
In Kenya, many girls miss school because they do not have reliable menstrual health supplies or access to accurate information about their periods. For girls already facing economic hardship, a period can mean missed lessons, stress, embarrassment, and falling behind in school month after month. In some communities, girls grow up with little guidance about menstruation and few safe places to ask questions. Managing a period can become a source of anxiety instead of a normal part of life.
Huru partners directly with schools and communities across Kenya to help girls stay in school during their periods. Through school-based distributions, girls receive Huru Kits with reusable pads lasting over 24 months, underwear, soap, storage materials, and care instructions. Trained facilitators create safe, supportive spaces where girls can ask questions, understand their bodies, and learn to manage their periods confidently. Teachers are also engaged to reduce stigma and strengthen support.
This project helps girls attend school more consistently and with greater confidence. Girls receive ongoing support that extends far beyond a single distribution day. Over time, improved attendance, access to accurate health information, and stronger community support can help girls stay engaged in their education and pursue future goals. Huru's locally produced kits also help create jobs and vocational opportunities for women in Kenya through Huru's Skills Development Program.
