This project follows students through their academic careers supporting those who need it at school and the same students or others who need help in the college years.
Currently, there are 9 students receiving help from CHI as they study at Herat universities, 6 are female. Scholarship recipients have studied a wide range of degree subjects including, English, mining and geology, psychology, political science, economics and management, religious law, Dari literature, nursing, computer science, graphic design and stomatology. Nine students in Kabul attending 7 universities have received scholarships, 5 are female. Three of the students are studying law and politics, and two are on a BBA course. A scholarship also went to one literature and one engineering student and one religious law student.
Aadiba had this to say, “I am 23 years old and married with a 5 year old daughter. My husband is headmaster of an educational department in Herat city and I am working as a teacher.I teach here while my daughter is studying at one of the Professor Yacoobi kindergartens. I teach in the mornings and do my studies in Dari Literature in the afternoons at one of the private universities in Herat city. My tuition is being paid by the Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) … (a CHI project)… AIL has been the biggest supporter in our life.
This scholarship has been really helpful for my educational goals and got me to a great level of education. I would never have been able to pay my university if I was not given this scholarship. It has helped me change my life. Since attending university, I teach higher level classes and I receive a higher salary. This helps my husband pay our living expenses. In addition, my daughter is getting better at her lessons. We live in peace and are comfortable and we make better plans for the future of our daughter. Professor Sakena Yaccobi is a great and inspiring leader in my life. She guides me to my educational destination and providing women with such opportunities is very helpful in our society.”
Thank you for your continued support for education in Afghanistan.
