Aurora's first Crowdfunding Campaign ended a short while ago and I'm really pleased (and slightly overwhelmed) at the amazing response it received. We managed to easily surpass our own target by reaching £6100 and nearly 220 people donated to our cause. Absolutely fantastic! Again, many thanks to everyone who donated.
The aim of the campaign was to raise funds so we could provide free or subsidised counselling for people abused in childhood. Of the two people highlighted in our video we were able to resume support for Julie and she has this to say:
The only thing I have to say is how grateful I am for the generosity of people. How strange it is for me that I've been considered to be helped by Aurora. It always surprises me when such kindness is shown to me, I feel touched and full of gratitude.
The other person highlighted in the video (James) has not resumed therapy and he explains this himself:
I am very grateful for this but have already been offered counselling starting soon so your kindness and help might now give someone else a chance on the road to recovery.
We wish James the very best in his new counselling journey. Although James is not resuming counselling at Aurora we are in fact already giving "someone else a chance on the road to recovery" and we were able to begin counselling with a new client last week. We now have two people benefiting from your generosity and I will be updating you as more people are helped by the donations you generously made to Aurora.
Two other bits of news to mention. One of Aurora's Trustees (and his wife) will be walking 26.25 miles (marathon distance) along the River Thames from Tower Bridge to Hampton Court on Bank Holiday Monday Aug 31 to raise more funds for Aurora, I will adding more information to our profile here shortly.
The other news is that from 1 August Aurora changed its name to “Aurora Foundation for People Abused in Childhood”. We feel that this new name raises our profile and makes it more explicit what we are doing.
Please also a link to a Message from Susannah (Aurora's CEO) below.
Best wishes.
Nick
