Project Report | Jun 29, 2011
Approaching another monsoon

By Nadeem Tahir | Director Fundraising

Al-Mustafa Development Network has been busy in Rajanpur in construction of shelters for extremely vulnerable families. The new shelters are targeted to be complete by 20th July 2011 for 150 families. While foundation work for all shelters is complete, 43 are fully completed and will be handed over to families in coming week.

Earlier efforts for construction of shelters for 25 families have seen a great success. Constructed units handed over earlier this year are providing best protected space for poor families. While speaking to team of volunteers, Moula Buksh (a beneficiary of shelter program) said, "When the flood water took away my home and my animals, I thanked Allah that he saved my family at least. I thought I may not be able to built a new home in years to come but the help arrived suddenly and ADN provided us a beautiful home better than the one destroyed by floods". Pahari Mai was unable to speak more than this "Allah help you, Allah help you". Although building homes/shelters for the poor families has been a great help, the installation of water pumps has attracted a lot of praise from the residents of Kuch Bani. All families in Kuch Bani have a home, a toilet (a new addition for all of them, non-existent before floods) and a hand pump with pure clean water flowing with an easy push of handle.

Fears are seen on the faces of residents as the new monsoon is approaching this year. However one thing is satisfactory that new homes are better to resist any floods longer than the previous mud-houses.

Whether it is home, toilet or hand pump; it may not have been possible without the quick help and support from the donors like you. Every single dollar contributed in wiping a tear and expanding a smile. Please note that this rehabilitation of flood-affected people is not over in all areas of Pakistan. Still thousands of families are awaiting support to construct a shelter.

We need your support, your advice in stretching a helping hand to those most in need. Do you have any ideas for us, how to prepare for upcoming monsoon?? Last night thunder storms damaged dozens of homes in Pakistan and took 10 lives. Please remember every single dollar counts here!!!
