Following a successful distribution of condoms through safe Mtaani campaign drive connected with a toll-free telephone number, the campaign drive is leaving no street and part of Eastlands Nairobi unattended. This has been boosted by the acquisition of a motorbike meant for express delivery services of the products including referral transportation of voluntary medical male circumcision targeting the youth picked from their respective training grounds to EDARP clinics. The 70,000 condoms ordered for the year 2017 will be distributed through football outreach events that include; tournaments, leagues and other entertainment joints in the streets."Am glad to have a packet of condom and whenever i need a condom,i will be calling VAP." Said 18 year old Ngure who works at a petrol station.
VAP Attends HIV Maisha Conference
Experts, researchers, scientists, donors and HIV program implementing organizations from Kenya and across East Africa gathered at Hilton hotel, Nairobi to attend the 2017 Maisha HIV and AIDS conference organized by the National Aids Control Council (NACC). The theme of the conference was ''Translating the Science to End New HIV Infections in Kenya: Perspectives, Practices and Lessons. During the conference the announcement of the first Maisha HIV and AIDS scientific Recognition Awards which VAP took part by submitting an abstract on Football and Oral self-testing were made. The awards included: Young Investigator Awards, Clinical research award, Social sciences research award, Advocacy amongst communities of PLHIV to promote uptake and utilization of research, and Basic sciences. The conference aimed to promote public engagement in understanding existing and emerging HIV prevention, care and treatment research of emerging associative medical problems like meningitis, tuberculosis, malaria, kidney failure, ARV side effects among others. The conference further sought to explore the utility of these research findings in every-day policy and implementation decisions. Not only in health care service delivery, but also in community HIV services, financing decisions, planning by organisations and across sectors in order to create the necessary ripple effect for HIV epidemic control in Kenya. VAP will utilize the lessons and information gained from the heavily parked conference to scale up its HIV programs in the communities.
