Meet Karanja,A qualified HIV Ambassador

19 years old Karanja has had a stellar raise from being a program participant at the tender age of 12 years when he first came into contact with VAP’s community awareness program, Skillz Kenya at his former Riverside primary school. Karanja a former graduate of Skillz Kenya program has had a great deal of HIV knowledge and experience through his stages of years in both primary and secondary school. Currently a certified Skillz coach, he has been hitting the ground with other Skillz coaches delivering HIV/AIDS awareness messages in various schools and community centres around Nairobi.” I came to know and learn about HIV at the age of 12 years through Skillz Kenya program. Ever since that moment I have become an ambassador of HIV, sharing information with my colleagues, family and community members. Now that am one of the trained Skillz coaches am ready to take my role of teaching other people especially the youth about HIV.” Said Karanja.Karanja’s future is burning the eyes of VAP community as we watch his movements.

 Partnership With Kenya Institute of Social Work

In order to foster and enhance students  knowledge in the areas of community development and social work,VAP has teamed up with  Kenya Institute of Social Work College (KISWC).The  partnership will provide an opportunity for KISWC students to have a hands-on internship experience with VAP programs and activities as they pursue their respective courses.VAP will engage KISWC students in different programs and activities  including: program development, monitoring and evaluation,counseling,community health, communication and media amongst others. The students will be integrated with VAP team, working together towards changing the lives of young people in the communities as they also gain knowledge that would enhance their future careers, aligning themselves with the college’s motto of ‘Empowering The Community for Sustainable Development.’
