Scoring For Health

By Enouce Ndeche | Project Principle

As the world was marking 30th anniversary of World AIDS day, a group of young people both boys and girls under the auspices of  Kick ‘N’ Test VCT football tournament, gathered on different grounds around the lower mukuru for football matches and HIV testing activities. With 28 teams on board, the tournament provided a ‘bonus’ health opportunity to Skillz Kenya HIV weekly awareness program participants who got a chance to know their HIV status. Teams were awarded points based on the customary rules and regulations of Kick N Test tournament where the winner was based on the numbers of people who got tested off the pitch points rather than the regular football match On the pitch scores. Distribution of condoms to the neighboring community members and referrals of voluntary medical male circumcision were made to several adolescent boys as supplement to the tournament’s gain.

2018 Gala Awards

It was pomp and colour for the 3rd annual Gala Awards that was held at Jericho social hall. Various teams both boys and girls who participated in the just concluded Top 8 Wasichana Wacheze league and Heshima football league were in attendance alongside their coaches and teachers. Best teams and outstanding coaches and teachers were awarded awards based on their unwavering commitment on serving the entire community both ON and Off the field. The overall best award was scooped by Beniko Football club who made the most number of VMMC referrals and HIV testing to their teammates and other adolescent youth in their community. The team was also the most active in the Heshima program by promoting positive masculinity.
