BSPES Report for GlobalGiving - Nov 2020 - Feb 2021
Academic Report
The average attendance of students in all sections (online attendance) was about 40% in November and December but increased to 70% in January 2021
With schools closed due to Covid-19, the Government has finally allowed tests and practicals for the board classes. To keep the students motivated with learning and helping them practice for the board exams, we are having them watch videos of students who have excelled in the previous board exams. This has helped the students understand the process better and learn from their mistakes. We daily conducted 4 hours of extra classes for students in 10th grade for their upcoming exams. Some of the students who are serious about their studies and exams but don’t have access to devices from home, come to the school on Sundays to study and take the exams.
The primary sections remain closed due to Covid-19 and all students are continuing virtually. Due to connectivity issues and also the lack of devices in every household, we only have about 30-40% of students participating virtually. We are allowing 6-8th grade students on rotation based for their half-yearly exams. Primary students are also coming for their monthly tests and using the online monthly test process.
Our teachers are trying to keep the primary students engaged during their virtual sessions through some physical and creative activities. Every Saturday and Sunday some selected teachers and students do 15 minutes of physical activities through the WhatsApp video call. They also have them make a rice flour dough and turn it into creative designs and structures.
There was a fun race organized as an early morning activity for the students in the village.
Deepawali celebration - We tried to continue the festivities and have the students do some activities from home.
In spite of holding virtual classes, we continued our New Year, and Republic Day celebrations.
Teachers Training - We have 2 of our students who joined BSPES as new teachers. Both are under training.
We have prepared 12 students for the entrance test at Jawahar Navodya School - class 9th, and 3 students for class 6th.
We have also prepared 3 students from class 8th for the Hindustan Times Olympiad.
We managed to engage some of the students in 1st through 5th grade in some extra activities through our online classes - stone painting, woolen painting, Vitamins speech, Puppet painting, and drawing. We also played online chess, Yoga, and mono acting play.
