Twinkle's Bright Star

As one who grew up in a good family  with both a mother and a father who provided for me  love, care, and all the things I needed to become who I am today, I couldn't imagine how a child with no home, no protection, no means to provide for himself or herself could survive. The children are our society's most vulnerable and marginalized group.

Twinkle is one of these children. She was 11 years old when she was rescued from the streets of Davao City and was admitted to the care of the Children’s Joy Foundation.

It was found that she was left by her biological mother when she was only two (2) years old under the care of a minor who was not able to properly take care of her. As a result, she grew up in the streets. With no documents to confirm her real identity, no one knew her real name or her actual birthdate.

She was physically unwell when she was admitted to the center — a low-spirited child who shies away from everyone around her.

That was Twinkle 2 years ago. Now, she is a bright and happy child who has found a new family with Children’s Joy Foundation.

A bone age test identified her real birthday and last 2016, she celebrated her birthday for the very first time.

Though she was diagnosed with mental development delay due to her plight as a child, she is now going to school and very excited to learn new things. She particularly likes to draw and just recently received a “Best in Penmanship” award in her class.

Twinkle wants to be a teacher someday. “Paglaki ko gusto kong maging isang teacher para tuturuan ko din silang magbasa at magsulat”. (When I grow up, I want to be a teacher so I can also teach them to read and write.)

Twinkle says “Thank You” to her new family and to the people who continuously support the cause and advocacy of the Children’s Joy Foundation.

Truly, we may not be able to change the world completely but transforming the life of a child makes us one step further to making the world a better place for all.

The Children’s Joy Foundation remains true to its commitment to fulfill every child’s right to a good life, to be protected, and to be cared for — not only in the Philippines but also around the world.

Note: For the protection of the children under our care, the names used in this report are not their real names.
