Another birthday in captivity

By Leigh Burke | Director, Partnerships and Development

In the last three months, there have been both hopeful advancements and heartbreaking anniversaries in Austin Tice’s case. August marked the fifth anniversary of Austin’s disappearance and his 36th birthday. Austin’s parents, Marc and Debra Tice continued to raise awareness of his case and held a press conference in Beirut in July with the support of RSF. Through the media, they reminded the world that Austin is alive and his return home must remain a high priority.

The good news is that the Trump administration has been actively engaged in Austin’s case, highlighting the assurance that Austin is alive. We are hopeful that new leads and diplomacy under this new Administration will result in the Tices finally seeing their son safely back home.

Since 2012, RSF has been working closely and ardently with Austin’s parents, friends and colleagues. RSF has financially supported their efforts to bring Austin home through our Fund for Families. The funds have been used to partially cover the overwhelming financial burden of securing their son’s safe return by supporting their travel to and from events and meetings.

Please continue to read the news reports and videos about Austin, and donate to RSF’s Fund for Families to support the Tices and other families whose loved ones in journalism have gone missing, been detained or kidnapped. We believe as the Tices do, that Austin's return home will be soon. Thank you for following Austin's story and for donating to the family's efforts.
