Thank you for supporting the Fund for Families

By Hilary Koss | Development Manager, Reporters Without Borders USA

Thank you so much for your generous gift to the Fund for Families. It is because of donors like you that we are able to provide critical support to journalists and their families in the most difficult moments of their lives, and we could not be more grateful.

In the three months since our last report, we have seen Austin Tice’s birthday and the anniversary of his detainment. His sixth year in captivity on August 14th was honored with a photo exhibition of his images from Syria, a nationally televised segment of his parents, Marc and Debra, as they continue to share Austin’s plight with the world, and news articles from around the country telling Austin’s story. We saw #FreeAustinTice gain notice on social media as family members, individuals like you, and journalists shared their stories of Austin and hopes for his safe return.

One story in particular stuck out: Jason Rezaian of the Washington Post, who was imprisoned with his wife in Iran for over a year and a half. "Thinking of #AustinTice who was taken captive in Syria 6 years ago today," he said. "A few weeks ago on the bus, on my way to work I set next to a woman who had a #FreeAustinTice pin on her backpack. I told her I was once the name on one of those pins. It means everything not to be forgotten."

We will never forget Austin or stop trying to bring him home. We know all of you feel the same.

Thank you again for your gift to the Fund for Families. With your support, we will continue to protect journalists, their families, and the right to information for all.

All my best,
Hilary
