This project, initiated by the independent media outlet Wild East, focuses on in-depth research into the history, cultural phenomena, and social dynamics of Eastern Ukraine, particularly the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. We create fact-based content that counters Russian propaganda, promotes Ukrainian unity, and reveals the true identity of Eastern Ukrainians. Our mission is to combat disinformation and shape a modern understanding of Eastern Ukrainians.
Since 2014, Russia has systematically distorted perceptions of Eastern Ukraine through propaganda, stigmatizing its residents, misinforming global audiences, and weakening Ukrainian cohesion. In Ukraine and around the world, there is often a lack of understanding of who Eastern Ukrainians are and what they want.
Wild East creates high-quality videos for YouTube and social media through in-depth research, professional filming, and editing. To create the videos, we involve insiders from the East, ensuring authenticity. The project covers the full production cycle-from ideation to promotion, including scriptwriting, videography, and strategic distribution. Funding also supports organizational capacity: communications, fundraising, and planning future episodes.
The project helps build a united Ukraine by amplifying the voices of its most misunderstood region. These stories break down stereotypes, foster empathy, and promote peace. The impact extends beyond Ukraine, informing global audiences and supporting democratic resilience. We aim to achieve at least 400,000 views in 4 months, expand partnerships with media and NGOs, and develop a strategy for scaling the project.
