Cathwel Service initially started by assisting unmarried pregnant women and has helped many mothers with unexpected pregnancies over the decades. From 2017, we developed a support group for some mothers who decided to raise their children alone through regular meetings and resource referrals. As these children grow into school age and even approach adolescence, single mothers often need more resources and parenting knowledge to cope with the various stages of their children's development.
Last month, we invited members of the support group to participate in a parent-child experiential sex education activity. In comparison to western countries, Taiwanese families are more conservative regarding gender awareness and related topics. Therefore, these single mothers face greater challenges when discussing sex education with their children.
