Arjun - A smiling inspiration

Dear Friends,

A sincere thank you for your support to Bal Asha Trust during the September Challenge and beyond.

Today we have 45 children in care and most of them are with special needs. Your support helped us to reach the most needy our society i.e. Destitute Children.

Arjun was found abandoned by local police of a neighboring district of Mumbai.  He was admitted in a child care centre. The child care centre on admission found that Arjun did not have male genitals…

They immediately contacted Bal Asha Trust and after formalities Arjun was in children’s home.

Arjun is little above three years.  We found him to be great kid with an amazing smile.  He immediately settled in with the regular routine of home.   The medical care team took him to a pediatric surgeon.  On examination and tests the doctor concluded that he will need a highly skilled Genitoplasty surgery.

It was very sad for us to know from the doctor that he was in this situation probably because his genitals could have been mutilated either accidentally or otherwise before being abandoned.

A few weeks later he was admitted for a surgery which lasted for more than four hours.  During the operation he was found to have dense adhesions of the penile shaft with virtually no skin.   The structure was freed from all sides and covered with a skin graft, the skin coming from his thigh…

After a long post surgery care by care takers and nurses of Bal Asha Trust Arjun is doing well medically.  His struggle is not over yet, as it cannot be predicted if he will have an erectile function.  The team will continue to give him the best medical care and rehabilitation.

Throughout this one thing did not change and inspired us is Arjun’s constant SMILE.  There is so much to learn from children.  Inspite a sort of Tsunami in their individual life they continue to smile and make us cheerful.

Thank you for helping us to give children like Arjun a life they deserve.

I request you to consider making a recurring donation as GlobalGiving is matching 100% all new recurring donations up to $200 per donor for a short time!  You have to choose to make atleast four consecutive months including the first one.

Your recurring donation will make a bigger impact!

Bal Asha Trust team and children wish you a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year with your loved ones.
