This project will help Wilma Fox Child Development Centre support orphans and vulnerable children live sustainable livelihood by improving food security and economic empowerment of child headed families in Western Uganda. The organization will grow coffee and food crops for income generation and feeding of children. The income will facilitate access to education, health care services, and home basic needs.
Of the 7.2 million households in the country, about 28,800 are child-headed. This results from factors such as loss of parents, broken families due to gender based violence and abandonment. Such children are unable to provide the necessary care and love to their young ones. Food production is normally inadequate, medical care, education and other basic needs are hard to come -by, in such a family headed by children. Therefore, they need support.
This project will help provide income for the organization for sustainability hence reduced donor dependence. The children involved in agriculture will acquire the practical knowledge and skills thus becoming self-reliant.
This project will get enough food for the children and income to run its activities. This will reduce the donor dependency and have a sustainable plan. The children involved will get the skills in agriculture , employment opportunities such weeding, harvesting, storage, disease and pest control and chain value addition.
