Education Programme for Child Labourers in Bangladesh
Progress Summary – August 2025
Introduction
Child labour remains a harsh reality in Bangladesh, where many children are denied education and forced into hazardous or exploitative work. UKBET’s education programme brings learning directly to these children in Sylhet City through community teachers, vocational training, and family support. Our goal is to help them leave labour, gain skills, and build safer, brighter futures.
Key Highlights
18 teachers recruited, reaching 274 children currently enrolled.
334 children supported so far in 2025 (target: 432).
47 children in vocational training (tailoring/beauty).
5 children admitted into formal schools; 1 child placed in safe work.
20 families received income-generating assets (rickshaws, tools, food carts).
167 families screened through new health initiative; many hidden conditions identified and treated.
Community Impact
16 community meetings held on education, health, safety, and child marriage.
15 student awareness sessions on phone safety and gender risks.
26 former child labourers now in school with full sponsorship.
42 students mentored by university volunteers; 3 older girls hired as paid tutors.
Case Story – Nasima
Nasima, 13, once worked full-time in a household and never went to school. After joining the programme, she quickly learned to read, write, and do maths. With UKBET’s support, her mother opened a food stall, easing reliance on Nasima’s income. Today, Nasima is training in beauty skills and dreams of running her own parlour – proof that education can break the cycle of labour.
Closing Note
With your support, UKBET is helping child labourers reclaim their childhoods and build safer futures.
Together, we are turning hardship into hope.
