Funds raised through GlobalGiving support our general water fund, so we can use your gift where it's most needed. While we may not be assigning your donation to a specific project, rest assured 100% of what we receive will fund water projects in the areas of greatest need.
One of the countries your gift could go to is Madagascar, where we are working to make sure girls like Sylvia don't have to miss school because of dirty water. Sylvia's first few years of school were spent repeating the same pattern: go to school, get sick, miss school. At one point, she was missing two weeks of school every month due to chronic diarrhea and bilharzia (caused by freshwater parasitic worms). Before they had access to clean water, Sylvia's community collected water from a river about an hour away. During the dry season, they'd have to dig holes in the river bed until water finally came to the surface.
Today, Sylvia and her community can easily collect clean water from their community tap stand. They've had clean water for a year now - and Sylvia hasn't missed a single day of school since!
Since 2017, charity: water has funded 1,971 projects in Madagascar that will serve 68,882 people through a $3,999,506 cumulative investment.
Thank you for being a part of a community, we hope that you are proud of the work you have helped to make possible. Together, we can hope for a future where no kids have to miss school because of dirty water.
