Funds raised through GlobalGiving support our general water fund, so we can use your gift where it's most needed. While we may not be assigning your donation to a specific project, rest assured 100% of what we receive will fund water projects in the areas of greatest need.
One of those areas of need is Ethiopia's northern region of Tigray. In rural Ethiopia, where more than 80% of the population resides, water is inaccessible. And when it is available, it’s often unsafe. Many sources are open ponds and rivers polluted by human waste and microbial contamination.
Since 2007, charity: water has funded 9,335 projects that will serve over 2.7M people. Our incredible local partner in northern Ethiopia, the Relief Society of Tigray, has increased water accessibility from less than 20% to over 70% over the past decade in Tigray. Their local drilling team is so passionate about helping their neighbors, they're on the road 29 days out of each month during the dry season working towards full coverage.
This year, we're grateful to invest your generosity in programs like the Relief Society of Tigray's. We're hoping to reach full coverage in Tigray in the next few years, and look forward to keeping you updated on the progress!
Thank you, so much, for your investment in clean water. Nothing we do would be possible without your kindness.
