Funds raised through GlobalGiving support our general water fund, so we can use your gift where it's most needed. While we may not be assigning your donation to a specific project, rest assured 100% of what we receive will fund water projects in the areas of greatest need.
One of the countries your gift could go to is India. Abdul Khan and his family live deep in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India where in the dry season, water is scarce and temperatures can exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Because of the lack of water, Abdul used to spend about 25% of his annual income having water delivered to his family. Every few weeks, a tanker truck would arrive and pour water into a makeshift open pond. That was the only option. But not anymore.
Today, because of supporters like you, Abdul's family has their own tanka -- a concrete, underground cistern built by our local partner that collects and safely stores enough water during the rainy season to last the whole year. Which means they no longer pay to have their water delivered.
For years, Abdul's family was considered “ultra poor” by his community because they lived in a temporary home with a thatched roof and makeshift walls. Now they're using the money that they're saving to build a permanent home they can be proud of. We hope that makes you proud too.
