Mykhailo was a 17-year old when his mom first contacted us in 2001. He was being treated for B-cell lymphoma in Israel and needed help. After sucessful treatment, he returned home to Ukraine. But after the Russian attack on Ukraine, he and his family had to flee their home and relocate to Lithuania. There Mykhailo enrolled into the Vilnius Technical University and he is now studying biomedical engineering. Although Mykhailo is in remission, it is critical that he goes for regular testing and evaluation to ensure the disease has not recurred. His family lost their jobs and home after they left Ukraine and they need support to afford necessary testing procedures such as PET scans for Mykhailo. As a foreigner, Mykhailo has to pay out of pocket for any medical treatment, and at times it is more affordable to travel outside Lithuania to access cancer care. For his last evaluation, Mykhailo traveled to France to undergo PET scan. After the test, he was happy to learn he remains disease-free.
We are very grateful for your support of our project! Patients like Mykhailo who are unable to access quality cancer care in their home countries have no choice but to travel abroad for treatment. Without insurance, they are expected to pay for medical services out of pocket. Your help allows them to afford that and receive appropriate care.
We are looking forward to supporting more displaced patients like Mykhailo thank to the generosity of supproters like you! Wishing you joyous holiday season and a happy New Year ahead!
